Ramyana stories - Sita swayamvar

Sita, daughter of janaka raja came to marriage age. His father arranged swayamvar. Most renowned kings from across the country came and participated in the swayamvar.  Rama, lakshmana and they guru vishwamitra had attended the swamyawar. When they came to janaka’s palace he came and gave a grand welcome to them. The king took blessings from vishwamitra and showed a seat for them.

Then janaka says, any king whoever want to marry my daughter should lift the bow and put an arrow to it successfully.

The bow that was placed in the swayamvar was given to Janaka Raj by Parushuram. This was the divine bow that was gifted to Parushuram by Lord Shiva. One day when his little daughter sita was playing, she suddenly lifted the huge and strong bow gifted by parushuram. Then he thought that whoever lifts the bow will be the husband to his daughter sita

All the kings in the swayamvar got disappointed by hearing the words of Janaka Raj.

Then raja janak says, what happened why no one is coming forward to lift the bow?

Hearing this, Ravana came forward and tried to lift it with a single hand. But he couldn’t he tried lot of times but he was unable to lift the bow. He then gave a last try at that time the bow had fallen on him and was injured severely.

He said, oh! Somebody remove this bow from my stomach

Then janaka sent his servants to remove the bow that was fallen on him. Then they removed it safely. By this ravana felt insulted, everyone over there started laughing at ravana. Then ravana came back and sat at his place quietly.

Then every king felt that ravana the powerful and strong person was unable to lift it how can we lift. Everyone was in dilemma.

Each and every king came to the swayamvar had tried to lift the bow but no one had succeeded in lifting it.
Then vishwamitra insisted rama to lift the bow. Then rama took the blessing of vishwamitra and went to lift the bow.

He immediately lift it with single hand and was about to set arrow to it. At that time, the bow had broken into two pieces. Seeing this everyone in the kingdom felt happy. Raja janaka was happy and excited. Sita was thrilled by seeing this. Then immediately, she offered garland of flowers to rama and choose him as his better half and Rama even had put the garland of flowers to sita. Then janaka raj invited Raja dasartha for Rama and sita’s marriage ceremony. They all blessed the beautiful couple.
