A poor Scholar with rich attitude

There lived a scholar called Krishna Sastry in a small village Krishnapur.  He is well-versed in all Holy Scriptures. Although he is having extreme knowledge but he is very poor. He could not even feed his family sufficiently. After facing many difficulties he would get some food for his family. But at times he would starve for food. He doesn't have good clothes to wear. So, to feed his family he started begging for alms by going house to house in his village. On seeing his attire many people would think that he is mad and would not allow him to enter their gate. They use to shut the door by seeing him and telling him to “go away”. This situation continued for many days he could not get any food for his family for weeks together. They use to kill their hunger by drinking water.

One day when he went to other street for begging a rich man offered him new clothes and a nice meal. From the next day he started begging wearing those new clothes as before. When he went to the first house in the street, the householder invited him with respect to have meals in his house. He gave water for the scholar to wash his feet and showed him a place to sit.  He served him with different varieties of special dishes such as soups, sweets, fruits, meals, etc.

The scholar started having food after completing his prayer and he took a sweetmeat in his hand and started feeding to his clothes, seeing this the householder did not understand the situation. When he asked the scholar that why is he feeding food to clothes? then the scholar replied that, “everyday I used to beg for food at your house but your never offered me food” instead you said me to go away now when I wore the new clothes you invited me and serving me in respectable manner all these happened because of this clothes, that’s why I am grateful to these clothes. As gratitude, I am feeding these clothes with food. By seeing this householder felt mortified.

From this story we came learn that we should never and ever judge a person by his attire
